Portuguese at UF
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies provides instruction in the Portuguese language and in the cultures and literatures of Portugal and Brazil. Our linguistic approach at the beginning levels is highly communicative, with programs of instruction designed to help students acquire and refine their ability to speak, understand, read and write Portuguese. We also work closely with the Office of International Studies and Programs to encourage majors, minors and other interested students to study in Portuguese-speaking countries. The Department offers a B.A. and minor in Portuguese, and students may also specialize in Brazilian language and literature at the graduate level through the MALAS program of the Center for Latin American Studies.
